The Met x Eichholtz introduces the Dining Table Papyrus, defined by sculptural form and rich materiality, bringing timeless elegance to the heart of your dining space.
Crafted from exquisite brown oak veneer with an expressive open grain, this table draws subtle inspiration from ancient forms. The base design echoes the organic geometry of a historic column capital in The Metropolitan Museum of Art, reinterpreted into a contemporary silhouette. Its presence is both grounded and graceful, making it a distinctive centerpiece for refined interiors.
HISTORIC PROVENANCE
The Dining Table Papyrus takes its name and design inspiration from a capital bearing a papyrus motif that once crowned the column of a kiosk built in front of the temple of Amun at Hibis in Egypt’s Kharga Oasis. Dating to 380–343 BCE, the original column at The Metropolitan Museum of Art combines stylized representations of the common papyrus with foxtail flatsedge plants—an early example of the so-called composite capitals that unite decorative botanical forms into one cohesive design. Eichholtz honors this legacy by translating the Egyptian capital’s rhythm and symmetry into the sculptural base of this modern table.

Care Instructions
How to care for Wood Veneer
Veneer furniture is covered in a thin layer of real hardwood. Veneers are often used in high end furniture pieces and can be more costly than solid wood. Mid 20th century it became especially popular in interiors when teak wood was often used for Danish design furniture.
To fully enjoy your wood veneer furniture, please follow a few basic rules:
- Avoid exposure to direct sunlight and excessive heat or dampness.
- Be careful not to leave a wet ring on the surface after watering flowers or plants.
- Don’t expose the furniture to scratches from pets or sharp objects.
- Use coasters and place felt pads under lamp bases and accessories.
Cleaning & Maintenance
Wood veneer requires gentle care to preserve the finish. Dust regularly and clean with a soft dry cloth.
Remove spills immediately as moisture can cause the veneer to peel off the surface. Prevent moisture from getting underneath the veneer by quickly and thoroughly cleaning up any spills. In case of water rings, rub the area with naphtha. Follow up with an application of oil or petroleum jelly to completely erase the mark.
